Sophie Update
Update - October 26, 2025:
We spent the day with Sophie in downtown Vancouver and came away feeling really great about how she's doing. She is walking very well, carrying a cane in case she needs it for balance. The cane, which she has "bedazzled" with disco mirror ball squares, is the only outward indication that she has had an injury. The prognosis is very good, long term. She has had her first session with the rehab team and they are optimistic for a full recovery. No high risk activities for a year, which means she can't be on a bike. The rehab team is working towards getting her to a place where she can drive her car. For now she can take the train and bus around town.
Sophie remembers everything up to before the crash in perfect detail. Her long term memory does not seem to be affected. She is missing some short term memories, including the crash itself, and some of her stay in the hospital in Moncton. Maybe we hope that never comes back.
Sophie and her family are confident that she will return to her work as a nurse. She will be reevaluated in January. As far as we're concerned she could just as well take up work as a comic in the mean time, given her sense of humour seems fully operational.
The poor gal is under a microscope. All of us prodding and asking her questions to see if we can assess her brain injury from the outside. We're happy to report that our interrogation went smoothly and we were not able to determine any difference in her cognitive before and after!
